How do I qualify for the race?

In order to qualify for Heroes Ultra, you will need to demonstrate sufficient prior experience in similar events – this is for your safety and everyone’s piece of mind. The system we use for qualification is points-based and allows for the submission of qualification results from past races of all distances and elevations. You can find the exact qualifications rules here.

Where should I stay?

Please check our Accommodation page for suggestions with your stay.

How do I get to the start line?

You can either drive yourself to the start line or make use of our free shuttle service which will be operating on race-day morning from Athina Palace Resort (map). The shuttle is free for all HUC participants, regardless of whether they are staying in Athina Palace Resort or not.

How do I get back from the finish line?

Free shuttle services will be running from the finish line back to Athina Palace Resort. Please note that the return journey will likely last between 60-90 mins and buses will be leaving periodically subject to finisher volume. Ample parking is also available near the finish area should you elect to have a friend pick you up.

Is there a mandatory equipment list?

Yes, there is and it includes the following: headlamp with batteries and spares, whistle, sun cream and hat, windproof jacket, water bottle and a charged mobile phone. A more definitive mandatory equipment list will be issued to you in your Athlete Manual.

Will the course be marked?

Yes, the course will be clearly marked on race-day for both day and night navigation with eco-friendly paint, high-vis ribbons and ad hoc signs that you will be briefed on in your Athlete Manual and during the pre-race briefing.

Am I allowed a support crew?

No support crews are allowed during the race. Runners will have to rely on the support provided by the 9 aid stations, numerous intermediate water stations and the bag access facility at our main aid station CP5 at Gerakari (see The Course).

My partner/friend/guest would like to join me at the finish line. Can you help?

The best way to ensure someone you’re travelling with will be able to follow you through the race and join you at the finish line will be if they hired a car. If that is not an option, we will endeavour to provide a car-matching service between guests with spare car capacity. We will be looking to do that sufficiently in advance of your trip to Crete.
